On national Blue Cornflower Day (24 June 2022) during MND Awareness Week, I will be taking on the challenge to climb the Brisbane Story Bridge to increase awareness of the impact of Motor Neurone Disease.

MND is a neurodegenerative terminal disease that affects a person's ability to move, speak, swallow and eventually, breathe. On average, each day two Australians are diagnosed with MND and sadly this disease will take most of them often in only 2.5years from diagnosis. There is no cure.

My dad was diagnosed with MND 3 years ago and I watched him bravely fight this disease every day.

He lost so much – by the end he had lost his ability to speak, his ability to walk, his ability to take care of many of the bodily functions that we take for granted.

But he never lost his sense of humour, his determination, or his love – and I will climb in tribute to that.

I wanted my dad to see the climb and he tried his best - but his time ran out, so I climb in his memory, in his honour and for his legacy!!

If you, can I am asking you to donate to my climb so that we can continue to increase awareness and raise vital funds to support those living with MND, and to fund research into treatments and ultimately a cure!

We lost our hero - and our hearts are hurting.
No one can argue how hard you fought dad and as much as I am glad you are at peace – I will miss you for ever.
MND stole your twilight years, but I am so glad you were here in Australia, and we got to spend the wonderful years we did as a family.
You will always be in our hearts – we are so proud of you!

Love you!

I should just point out that I have a phobia of metal structures – there is just something about metal crossing over metal that turns my tummy!
As much as this is no where near the same as the challenges of someone battling MND, please note, this climb will not be a walk in the park for me!!!
