MND Queensland's Current Management Committee

President: Diana Melham

MBL, GAICD, AGIA

Diana has spent 30+ years as a senior executive and company director in the not-for-profit sector. As an experienced CEO, she led both not-for-profit and commercial organisations involved in agriculture and sport.

During this time, Diana developed a deep respect and passion for the sector and the valuable role not-for-profit organisations play in the community. In 2020 she established NFP Assist, a specialist consultancy focused on providing company secretary and governance services to not-for-profit organisations. Diana is currently the board appointed company secretary for several organisations operating in the community, education and sporting sectors.

Diana is an experienced director having served on association, private company, and government advisory boards/committees. Currently she serves as the President/Chair of two charities, MND Queensland and Advocacy for Inclusion, as well as a director and the company secretary of MND Australia and Chair of the ACT Government Firearms Advisory Committee.

Combined executive and director experience provide Diana with a unique insight enabling analysis from a dual perspective. This experience together with her studies has equipped her with the expertise and confidence to be an effective governance practitioner. Diana's ability to quickly understand and navigate the varying, and often complex, legislative and regulatory environments that govern different organisations is valuable from both a practitioner and governance perspective.

Diana has a Master of Business Law and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Laws. She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.


Vice President: Keith Malpress

Grad Dip Strategic Studies, BE (Electrical) (Hons 1)

Keith lives with Motor Neurone Disease and brings lived experience to the Management Committee. Along with this he also brings skills from his 31 years with the Royal Australian Navy where he spent time as a Systems Engineer, Logistics Manager and General Manager. After leaving the Navy, Keith continued working in management and logistics in the defence industry. Along with skills in management and logistics, Keith also has experience in relationships, implementing and negotiating contracts, managing large budgets, change management and leadership.

Treasurer: Katie Choi

BEc, LLB, LLM, GradDipAppFin, GAICD, FGIA, FCG (CS, CGP)

Katie is a legal practitioner and also an experienced board director, with more than 25 years’ experience in legal and finance industry across both public and private sectors, providing strategic legal advice to senior management and business teams on corporate matters, negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and finance transactions which span across many sectors and jurisdictions, with strong expertise in M&A, JV, equity and fund investment, corporate and project finance.

As a Chartered Governance Professional, Katie also has extensive experience advising organisations on corporate governance, risk management, systems and structures, legal framework and regulatory compliance. Katie holds a Master of Laws from the University of London, Bachelor of Laws and Economics from the University of Sydney and Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institutes of Australia (FINSIA). She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia

Committee Member: Paul King Koi

BBus (Marketing), Assoc Dip Elec Eng.

Paul lives with a rare type of MND and has also lost a close friend to MND/ALS so brings lived experience to the Management Committee. His professional career began in Electrical Engineering before moving to IT & T and he has worked for companies such as Telstra, Hewlett Packard, Motorola and Zebra Technologies. In addition to his technical and IT experience, Paul also has skills in relationship management, business development and contract negotiations. He is an experienced committee member having served on the management committees of multiple clubs and associations.

Committee Member: Chris Poole

BPsych, CHIA

Chris brings over a decade of experience as a senior leader and digital health specialist within the healthcare sector, spanning hospitals, community health, and digital health. Throughout his career, Chris has developed a reputation for understanding the key issues facing healthcare organisations and supporting the turn around and scale of healthcare providers and solutions.

Chris has held roles and supported organisations ranging from innovative start-ups to international healthcare providers, where he has led the successful implementation of digital tools to enhance patient engagement and clinical outcomes. His expertise includes digital transformation, clinical workflow optimisation, and leveraging emerging technologies to address complex healthcare challenges.

He holds a Bachelors of Psychology and Justice and is a Certified Health Informatician (CHIA) and is committed to shaping a brighter, more connected future for healthcare through critical thinking, collaboration, and continuous innovation.

Committee Member: Mark Kennerley

BCA, CA, FCPA, GAICD 

Mark is a highly experienced finance, commercial and governance executive with over 40 years in senior leadership roles across global markets in the dairy, retail and brewing industries. The last 27 years of his professional career were with Fonterra Co-operative Group where he held senior finance roles including Commercial Director APAC, Chief Internal Auditor, and has served on multiple joint venture boards across Asia. With deep expertise in commercial strategy, risk management, joint ventures and operational performance, he has led teams and driven growth in complex, cross cultural environments.

Mark has a reputation for being the calm centre during a crisis and pursuing problem solving in a logical manner. He is valued for his ability to build and retain stakeholder engagement during times of volatility, uncertainty and change.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University in New Zealand, is a Fellow CPA, a CA and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Committee Member: Dr Antony Winkel

BSc, MBBS, PhD, FRACP, FANZAN, GAICD

Dr Antony Winkel is a neurologist and the Medical Director of the Department of Neurosciences at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he established and continues to lead the region’s dedicated MND Clinic. With extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis, management, and care of people living with Motor Neurone Disease, Dr Winkel is widely respected for his contributions to advancing MND care in Queensland.

A passionate advocate for best-practice, evidence-based care, Antony serves on the Australian MND Clinical Guideline Development Panel, contributing to the national standards that guide clinicians and services across the country. He is also an Associate Professor at Griffith University, where he contributes to neurological education and research.

As a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (FANZAN), and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Antony brings not only deep medical expertise but also a sound understanding of governance and strategic leadership. His commitment to improving outcomes for people living with MND is informed by both professional dedication and personal connection to the cause. Through his role on the MND Queensland Management Committee, Antony offers critical insight and leadership to help shape the future of MND care and support across the state.

Committee Member: Dr Hervey Lau

MBBS, FRACP, GradDipBiostat, AFRACMA

Dr Hervey Lau is a dual-specialist physician in Respiratory, Sleep, and General Medicine and currently serves as the Director of Thoracic Medicine and Director of Sleep Medicine at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). He co-chairs the RBWH multidisciplinary Motor Neurone Disease (MND) clinic — Queensland’s largest — alongside neurologist Dr Robert Henderson, where he leads respiratory care for people living with MND.

Hervey’s clinical leadership is grounded in deep experience managing respiratory muscle weakness, a key and life-limiting complication of MND. His work ensures patients receive coordinated, expert-led care that integrates pulmonary, neurology, and community support services. His contributions in MND care have positioned him as a vital voice in one of Queensland’s most complex MND clinical environments.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Lau is recognised for his innovation in digital healthcare. He pioneered telehealth respiratory services that now extend specialist care across regional Queensland — work that has received institutional awards and national recognition. He is a recipient of the Australian Digital Health Agency’s scholarship and is currently completing an MBA in Healthcare Management to complement his training in medical leadership and biostatistics.

Dr Lau brings to the MND Queensland Management Committee a blend of clinical excellence, health service innovation, and a deep commitment to improving quality of life for Queenslanders living with MND. His experience managing complex patient care, combined with his understanding of health systems and governance, makes him a valuable contributor to the strategic and clinical direction of MND Queensland.
