Being a carer—or a former carer—can sometimes feel isolating, but you are not alone. Connecting with others who truly understand your journey can make a real difference.
At MND Queensland, we know that feeling connected with others impacted by an MND diagnosis helps you share experiences, learn from one another, and form meaningful friendships. That’s why we offer a range of opportunities for connection:
Support Groups and Community Events
We host a private Facebook Group as well as in-person and online MND Support Group meetings to bring together people living with MND, their families, and carers.

Carer Kitchen Table Conversations
We’ve introduced a special online support group just for carers—Kitchen Table Conversations.
The kitchen table is often the heart of the home. It symbolises connection, conversation, and togetherness. These sessions are designed to reflect that spirit, providing a safe and supportive space where carers can:
- Ask questions
- Share experiences
- Learn from each other
- Offer and receive emotional support
- Have a laugh—or a cry—just like you might around your own kitchen table
Hosted by Leigh Gilbert, Carer and Client Services Coordinator at MND Queensland, these gatherings are held online via Microsoft Teams:
🕐 Day sessions: 11:00 AM
🌙 Evening sessions: 6:30 PM
To register, email carers@mndqld.org.au or call 07 3372 9004.
Upcoming dates:
- Wednesday 9 July 2025
- Wednesday 3 September 2025
- Wednesday 1 October 2025
- Wednesday 29 October 2025
- Wednesday 10 December 2025
Support for Young Carers: The National Youth Hub
Young carers play a big part in the journey of someone diagnosed with MND, and they need a robust support network. The MND National Youth Hub provides information, support and tools for young carers ages 5 to 24 years old.
This includes:
- Information about MND
- Links to youth support services
- Tips for managing emotions and maintaining wellbeing
🛡️ Parental guidance is recommended when accessing the Youth Hub.

Online Community: MND Queensland Facebook Group
You may also like to join our MND Queensland Community Group on Facebook. This private group is open to MND Queensland clients, their families, and informal carers – present and former.
It’s a space to:
- Connect and share your experiences
- Discuss topics of mutual interest
- Support others going through similar journeys
MND Queensland’s staff also share useful information and contribute to the conversation as appropriate.
