NIV is a treatment that supports breathing by delivering positive pressure through a mask or mouthpiece. It is commonly used in MND to assist weakened respiratory muscles, often beginning overnight. While NIV can improve survival and quality of life, many people find it difficult to use consistently or for long enough to gain the full benefit. In this webinar, leading researchers Professor David Berlowitz and Dr Marnie Graco from the Institute for Breathing and Sleep will explain the 3TLA (PSG4NIVinMND) Trial, a nationwide randomised controlled trial. The trial is examining whether an overnight in-laboratory sleep study (polysomnography) can help personalise NIV settings and improve how effectively people with MND use the therapy.
